A RECONCILIATION between
the Pope and Monsignor Emmanuel Milingo, the rebellious African
exorcist, was in jeopardy yesterday after the archbishop痴 South
Korean wife threatened a hunger strike to the death unless the
Vatican allowed her to see him.
The 71-year-old Archbishop of Lusaka scandalised Roman Catholics
by marrying Maria Sung on May 27 in New York at a collective
ceremony of the Unification Church, the sect founded by the Rev Sun
Myung Moon.
Mgr Milingo was told that he would be excommunicated unless he
renounced the wedding and declared his loyalty to Rome by August 20.
He flew to Rome for a reconciliation, but his wife of three months
claims that he is being held by the Vatican against his
will.
